ARTIST STATEMENT

There are many ways to go through the changing paths of life, and art is for me the most amazing one. Since I was a child, I remember myself using colors to pull out my inner feelings, maybe because I grew up surrounded by people who simply love art. Although I am a self-taught artist, my official formation in biological sciences reinforced my detail-oriented interests. Nowadays, therefore, I am fascinated by realism but also by color expressionism in an open range of themes.

When I am working in portraits, compositional subjects or even when I am just giving wings to my imagination, I always try to provoke an emotional response. During my whole creative process, especially when I am evaluating reference photos of living organisms, I enjoy working to decipher or imagine the thoughts the subjects had. It opens an intimate moment between the subject and me that allows me not only to see deeper into the picture’s color and lighting composition but also bring me the initial inspiration I need to accomplish the endeavor. My motto is: Look around, get inspired and create your own world...

My artworks are mainly done using colored pencil because it is the best medium I found to achieve the degree of detail that I like. I love the sensation that colored pencils give to control the slow drawing rendering process, despite the fact that they are also very unforgiving to mistakes. That is why every time you see at a colored pencil drawing you must know that it took many hours of patient work. Contrary to others, I consider these properties of colored pencil therapeutic and an excellent way to overcome stress.
